Position Summary
Our client, a global leader in the life sciences sector, is seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support critical EHS operations during the expansion of manufacturing and laboratory facilities. This professional will ensure regulatory compliance, manage risk mitigation strategies, and help drive a proactive safety culture aligned with corporate standards and applicable laws.
This role is ideal for EHS professionals with strong knowledge of environmental regulations, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, and a successful track record supporting startup or facility expansion projects within a regulated, FDA-compliant environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and applicable industry standards.
- Support and monitor EHS requirements for facility expansion and/or startup activities.
- Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHA), and environmental impact evaluations.
- Complete EHS assessment forms in accordance with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) procedures, ensuring alignment with internal standards and FDA regulatory expectations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs and procedures across operations, laboratories, and utilities.
- Conduct EHS audits, inspections, and incident investigations; follow up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
- Support contractor safety management programs, including onboarding, training, and oversight of site activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Facilities, Quality, Operations) during construction, equipment commissioning, and startup phases.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for compliance reporting, safety data sheets (SDS), risk assessments, and training records.
- Lead or support safety training sessions for employees, supervisors, and contractors to ensure proper understanding of site-specific hazards and procedures.
- Promote a strong EHS culture and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) during audits, inspections, and internal reviews.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of industry experience in Environmental, Health & Safety within a regulated manufacturing or life sciences environment.
- Proven experience supporting EHS aspects of facility startups, expansions, or capital projects.
- Strong working knowledge of federal and local regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, and applicable state regulations).
- Excellent documentation, risk assessment, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
- Experience working in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of cleanroom classifications, GMP operations, and qualification processes.
- Proficiency in EHS management systems and electronic incident reporting tools.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.
